Kirsteen is a private piano teacher based in Livingston, West Lothian. She has more than 20 years of experience as a private music teacher.
Kirsteen graduated Bachelor of Music with Distinction from Edinburgh Napier University in July 1999. While at university she studied piano under the tutorage of acclaimed pianist Nicholas Ashton, and composition with Scottish composer Kenneth Dempster. She had several of her compositions performed by groups such as the Edinburgh String Quartet. She continued her music studies by completing a PGCE in music education for both Primary and Secondary education in 2000.
Making music lessons enjoyable is important to Kirsteen, as is building up relationships with her pupils. She believes that children learn more and will be more willing to practise if they have a good relationship with their teacher.
Kirsteen has taught pupils from age 3 right up to age 81!
Her pupils enter the ABRSM graded exams when they are ready for them and they have had a 100% pass rate to date. However, there is no pressure to sit exams and if you just want to learn music without sitting the exams this is absolutely fine.
As well as being an experienced teacher, Kirsteen is a busy mum to her 5 sons aged 8 – 22. Between them they play piano, accordion, trombone, trumpet, French horn, guitar and clarinet so it can be a noisy, musical house!
